There are two ways to get around the gallery. You can either use the gallery map which comes up
when you click on the THE GALLERY button at the top of the screen, or you can use the search options
which are to the left of the screen.
To use the gallery map, just click on an area within the map to bring up the works of art for that
genre which have been submitted to the gallery.
For example, if you click on the Photography genre in the map, you will bring up all
the photographs in the gallery. They will be shown in alphabetical order by artist.
Also on this map there is an information icon (i) in the top-right corner, which will
take you to this page of information.
The butterfly button in the middle of the map will take you to the home page of this site.
To get to the Gallery Map, click on the The Gallery button at the top of most
of the pages of this site.
When there are more pictures to be displayed, there will be more Page numbers displayed at the top
of each page. Click on these page numbers to take you to more works of art.
>> This button will take you to more pages of pictures.
<< This button will take you to earlier pages of pictures.
On the left hand side of the gallery there are several search options you can use to view the
works of art in the gallery.
Tip: The best way to get accustomed to searching the gallery if by having a play around
with the different options and clicking on SEARCH NOW. You should do this a few times to get familiar
with the way it works. Don't be afraid to experiment with these options - it was designed to give
you a good flexibility in locating works of art that you might want to find.
A description of the search options follow, and once you have chosen how you want to search by using
the different search options, you click on the SEARCH NOW button which is above the search options,
and the gallery will display works of art that fit your search criteria.
Genre: This is a drop-down selection control that when clicked shows the different
genres that are contained in the gallery. Select a genre to narrow your choice of works to that
genre.
Medium: Whenever you change the genre search option, this drop-down selection control
will change according to your choice of genre. For example, if you choose the genre "Photography", the
medium search option will display the options "All mediums", "Colour" and "Black & White"
which are the sub-options for the photography genre. By selecting a medium, you are narrowing
your search to that medium.
Whenever you are ready to search the gallery, you can click on the SEARCH NOW button. If you
click on this button without putting in any search options, the gallery will bring up
the first set of works in the gallery, irrespective of genre or medium. This means that you can
browse the whole gallery picture by picture if you choose.
Artist: Within this box type in the name of the artist you want to get the pictures
of. If you don't know the full name of the artist but only know a part of the name, that is alright.
For example, if you know an artist called George has submitted some work to The Chelsea Arts Club gallery
but you don't know his last name, then click into the Artist box, type in George and click on the
SEARCH NOW button. If Geoff has some work in the gallery, his pictures will be displayed for you.
(See Artist's Gallery and Artist's Profile for more info.)
Keywords: If you want to find out if there are certain pictures of a particular thing,
you can use this option. For instance, if you want to find pictures of the sea, you can click on
the Keywords box, type in sea and click on SEARCH NOW. All works of art containing
images of the sea will be displayed for you.
You can put in additional keywords by separating each word with a space, and these words will
extend your search.
The keywords search option searches the title of the work itself, plus additional keywords
which The Chelsea Arts Club has designated for each individual work.
ADVANCED SEARCH If you click on this button, additional search options will be made available for you. These are described below:
Price Range: This drop-down selection control allows you to narrow your search to works of art for sale by price range. You can choose all works for sale (ie. do not display works which one can't buy), or you can search for pictures which are less than £200 for instance.
Size (Height) / Size (Width) / Size (Depth): Lets say you want to find a picture that
is a certain size - for instance you want to find a picture that fill a wall - you can use this option
to only show works of art of a certain size. Change these options accordingly, click on SEARCH NOW
and these works of art will be shown for you.
STANDARD SEARCH This button only comes up after you have clicked on ADVANCED SEARCH. If
you click on it, it will bring back the regular search options for a simpler search.
Once works of art have been displayed on the screen, there is a description next to each image.
The title line is the title of the work of art. There may then be a brief description of the work, plus
additional information such as whether it is for sale and it's size, medium type, etc.
If you wish to enquire about the picture or buy it from the artist, you can get details on how to
do this by clicking on the Sale button written next to the price.
PROFILE If the artist has personal information available on the site, click on
this button and you can find out more about the artist. (See Artist's Profile for more info.)
ARTIST'S GALLERY This button will take you to Artist's works page where all the
works of art submitted to The Chelsea Arts Club by this artist will be displayed. (See Artist's Gallery
for more info.)
To see a large version of the image click on the picture itself and a new window
will be displayed containing a larger, more detailed image. As well as the increased appreciation of
the work created by seeing it bigger on the screen, it is also especially useful for viewing poems,
which may not be able to be read at the smaller size.
This page displays further information about the artist, and can also show a picture of the artist
themselves. You may be able to find out contact information for the artist on this page.
